Why I Created Cravings Close By
Good food brings people together
It really started with my wife making flan for our kids.
Once I tasted her flan, store-bought flan just couldn’t compare. Then she started venturing into other treats—chocolate-covered strawberries, brownies, cake pops, tres leches cake, and especially her cookies, and whatever else she felt like making.
She would pack some of those treats in my lunch bag for work, and people would always ask me:
“Where did you get that?”
When I told them my wife made it at home, the next question was usually:
“Can I pay her to make me some?”
That’s when something clicked.
It blew my mind that some people had never tasted flan. Never tried tres leches cake. Never had homemade buñuelos around the holidays.
And it made me wonder…
“What amazing food from other cultures have I never tasted—or don’t even know exists?”
There could be someone only a few miles away making something incredible that you’ve never heard of. Something their family has been making for generations. Something you would absolutely love if you only knew where to find it.
